A little overdue
Hey 7C, it's a little overdue, but I feel it's quite necessary to say a big THANK YOU to all of you for supporting me during the fac head elections. All your words and letters of encouragement have gone a long way in helping soothe a bad case of nerves on Q&A day ("oh crap", anybody?)

Becoming fac head is a (3-month-long) dream come true, and the realisation hasn't quite sunk in yet. I'm really grateful to everybody who's supported me all this while, and I hope I won't let you guys down in the coming months.

As for tomorrow, get ready to scream your lungs out. Forget about bio and chem lecture tests for those few hours and put your hearts into cheering for Ares! You know that we are the model Ares class, right? Yeah! Zi yan zi yu pump er shi xia! I'm really quite confident that we can win cheering tomorrow, so try to infect the rest of Ares with your enthusiasm! Let's go!

A plea!
Dear Class,

Long time no post on blog, how have you been? This time I am writing in, motive is to appeal for empty 1.5 litre bottles. We need as many bottles as possible to make noise during CSM on Monday. CHEERING COMPETITION IS WORTH A LOT OF POINTS IF WE WIN WE CAN OVERTAKE THE OTHER FACS though that's not really the important thing because all we want to do is display our fac spirit. right?

FAC POINTS!!! Pledge your bottles on the tagboard so I can know roughly how many bottles we can contribute currently. Try to get your Ares (or non-Ares) friends to bring empty 1.5 litre bottles on Monday too! Tankew!

the guys look on..................................................................

AT THE QUEUE! (actlly, this is only half the queue)

ANYWAY, SOME """SCANDALS"""!

it was only after chem lecture in the audi when i realised there was sth abnormal abt AHEM AHEM'S sitting position. he was obviously leaning towards AHEM AHEM. LOL.

We wrote history at 22:32.

Dear Mr Pang, here's your solution to the latecomers problem
Today, there is an incredible sight in the Auditorium at 1215 pm.

Dear Mr Pang, we have found your ideal solution to the latecomers to lectures problems. Install sofa seats for all seats in the auditorium and the LT .
Today, 7C went for the after recess Chemistry lecture in a record time that would make our CT Ms Chin proud. With more than 15 mins to spare, 3/4 of the class glued themselves to the comfy sofa seats in the auditorium, preparing for the chemistry lecture.
Look at the elated looks on their faces! 7C students are proud to be puncture and well behaved. We seek to be exemplary role models to our peers. Especially those talk cock people who come late for lectures. We denounce such acts. Be present for all lectures at least 15 minutes beforehand!!

Look at how happy they are to be sitting at these seats. Scientific studies have shown that studies and grades are POSITIVELY CORRELATED to the degree of comfort! Hope everyone can remember about enthalphy change of formation combustion and reactions though.

On the otherhand, some people just take things for granted. Such behaviour is no recommended for distinguished members of the Hwa Chong Family. Always be grateful that you are enjoying comfort.

Let see what our friends have to say about this incredible phenomenal!!

Dear 07S7C,

The Indian Cultural Society proudly presents, Inter Faculty Rangoli Competition!!! Rangoli is among the most popular art forms in India. It is a form of decoration that uses finely ground white powder and colours, and is commonly used in India. This year, in conjunction with the International Friendship Day, the Indian Cultural Society would be organising an inter-faculty Rangoli Competition so as to promote better understanding of the culture of our Indian friends...

Important info:
1) All CT are to submit design proposal for premliminary judging by 18 Apr 2007. Top 3 designs of each faculty will be chosen for final implementation round.
2) Finals will be held on 23 Apr 2007, only 5 colours (red, green, blue, yellow, purple) will be provided.
3) Competitors have an hour to complete their design in the inner plaza on 3X3 group tiles allocated.

Judging rubrics:
The Rangolis would be judged based on:
1) Aesthetic appeal
2) Cultural meaning - design and colour
3) Creativity in usage of materials
4) Adherence to theme (Friends)

Prizes:
1) Top 3 designs would receive attractive prizes. (i hav no idea wat it is)
2) The best part is... THERE IS FACULTY POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
1st placing: 15 points
2nd placing: 10 points
3rd placing: 5 points

As all of you have known, our fac is currently in 3rd position.. HOWEVER, the difference in score is only 5 between Apollo and Athena and 15 between Artemis.. Lets work together and grab the first placing and we will be able to tie with Artemis!!!! Mua hahaha.. Everyone, pls come up with a design if possible.. then we will be able to choose the best and submit it as design proposal.. :)

Fantastic Presentations during CT Session
Dear 7C,

Our CT sessions are never the same again starting from last Monday. Thanks to the superb proposal by our tutor Ms Esther Chin, we will get to hear from a few of our classmates every Monday about anything under the sun. Members from our class will take turns to present what interests them most, and hopefully, evoke the same interests in the rest of us. Today kick started the first of the wonderful series with distinguished members of the class, Messrs Goh Jun Heng and Keef Lin, as well as Miss Liang Yu Jing and Melissa Liew. Read on to find out more about their adventures!

Goh Jun Heng: Gold Coast Australia

Jun Heng shared with the class about his exciting trip to Gold Coast Australia and how very much he enjoyed the trip. He delightfully indulged in a lively recount of his trip to Movie World theme park and how his favorite childhood heros came to life. He ended off encouraging every one to take a trip there for it is a beautiful place and have beautiful people.

Miss Chin commented that he lacked pictorial information and hence the audience were not treated to a visual feast, having salivated at Jun Heng's masterful sotry telling skills.

Melissa Liew and Liang Yu Jing: Scrabble!

Melissa and Yu Jing shared about how to play the popular game Scrabble and taught everyone some techniques for playing scrabble, including how to take full advantage of the word bonuses, how to memorize all the two letter words (which dear fellow CT mate Mr. Lan Ying Jie seemed to have committed to memory)and how a player should play his cards in different situations. They also related their experiences in representing their secondary school for Scrabble.

I am sure after their informative and interesting presentation, many of us are itching to try out the game. The class is looking forward to more presentations on games (but be sure to bring the actual board so we can all experience for ourselves!)

Keef Lin: OPC New Zealand

Only when a man is genuinely challenged can he show his true character. Keef recounted how he showed his true character during his wonderful trip to OPC New Zealand in 2005. Keef told us how he managed to guide his team out of a cave when his orienteering skills abit zhai. He also told us how division of labour was quintessential in any successful teams (example he quoted was how he peeled potato while his friends cooked). He also pointed out to the guys in the class how important it is to know how to peel a potato properly, if not your ego deflates.

The only shortcoming of Keef's magnificent presentation was that he did not have visual aids to show the class how cool the trip really was. Ms Chin also suggested that he link his presentation to NS (guys doing future presentation, please take note).

I am ready to bet 6.02 * 10^23 mango madnesses that everyone in the class enjoyed this session and is looking forward to even more exciting presentations in the future.

COMING UP NEXT!!
Jolene, Mei Jiao, Neville and Xing Han!

SPAstic...
In view of the coming of SPAstic activities, please note the following to ensure success.

Skill B

  1. NEVER EVER fill up burette using a dropper so that you get O cm3
  2. NEVER EVER leave your funnel on burette.
  3. When pipetting and releasing solution into flask, tilt flask, touch the pipette tip GENTLY on the dry side, and roll one time and pull out. NEVER make any clink clink noises.
  4. SWIRL CONTINUOUSLY, and i mean REALLY CONTINUOUSLY
  5. DO NOT use the 1.5 drop 180* turn technique, nor the 0.5 drop touch side technique
  6. USE YOUR WHITE TILE.
  7. SHAKE your volumetric flask REALLY REALLY well.
  8. ALL TABLES must have PROPER titles as i have taught you.
  9. Recording colour change: The solution turned from COLOUR A to COLOUR B; where colour A is the colour JUST before end pt and colour B is THE END PT. (e.g Fe2+ titration, the colour of solution before end was pale yellow although it started out colourless/green, so record Pale Yellow to Pale Orange)
  10. Skill B discussions MUST BE INCLUDED. +-0.10cm3 MUST MUST BE INCLUDED.
  11. AT LEAST 2 reasons for consistency. (Rinsing of apparatus NOT ALLOWED)
  12. At least 1 reason for anomaly.
  13. Record everything to PROPER D.P.
Skill C

  1. Please write PROPER mathematical statements. ("No. of moles of HCl" NOT accepted if you referring to different volumes. Write "No. of moles of HCl in 25.0dm3")
  2. TIDY TIDY TIDY TIDY WORKINGS. Cancelling and blanco NOT encouraged.
  3. For simplicity ALL answers CONSISTENTLY 3 s.f.
  4. NEW CHANGE. ALL Ar and Mr now must be in 1 D P and only 1 D P (e.g. 120.0), EVEN WHEN they appear in a working!!!
  5. Show step by step working, don't skip if possible
  6. When invoking burette or pipette etc readings, write down to their appropriate d.p. in your calculations! 18.90 must be written, not 18.9. 25.0, not 25. 5.00g, not 5g
  7. Make sure you know your redox and stoich.
Last of all, you don't have time to dilly dally so do fast and think fast.

red nose day!
here're some suggestions on what you can do with your red noses:

1) Use it as a helmet for your toy turtle (I have no idea why it needs a helmet though)

2) Put them on your cheeks and look like a china doll

3) Use it as a (not very effective) hair tie

4) Put one on your head

5) Put two on your head!
6) I shall not post that picture up...
HAPPY RED NOSE DAY!
